#Me Too Movement!

A Slap in the face of Tamar and the “Me Too Movement.”

When the U.S. Senate voted to confirm Brent Kavanaugh as the next Associate U.S. Supreme Court Justice, it spoke with volumes about how the conservatives feel about the pain that women have experienced from sexual violation.  It’s appalling to me as a Christian man as well as it should be to all women that a woman, Senator Susan Collins, would cast the deciding vote to elect an accused sexual offender and proven liar.

I heard her attempt to cover her preposterous vote for Kavanaugh by eluding to the sham FBI investigation.  She did more than she will ever know to silence the wounded voices of women across America.  Collins also claimed that she believed that “Dr. Christine Blasey Ford was assaulted, but not by Brent Kavanaugh.”  Not by the Brent Kavanaugh with whom the White House refused to allow credible witnesses to be investigated.  Oh no! Not by the Brent Kavanaugh that had already lied and railed upon his white privilege to do so.

I am reminded of a biblical character by the name of Tamar (II Samuel 13: 1-19).  Tamar was raped by her half-brother Amnon and because it happened under the patriarchal system of the time, there were attempts to silence her by her brother, Absalom.  Even her father, King David, who pretended to be angry about Tamar’s rape never gave any indication of supporting her accusation against Amnon.  It was a slap in the face of Tamar.

Women across this nation have offered up their stories of abuse and assault through the “Me Too Movement.”  They have shared their pain with hopes of changing the narrative, whereas silence is the prevailing norm; yet, all that we see from Senator Collins and the power hungry majority white leadership is a desire to maintain power (white power) at any cost.

Sadder than anything that I have said above, the church has either become complicit or sold their souls to the devil (Trump) for the sake of maintaining power at all and practically any cost.  There is nothing morally right about Trump’s approach to governing; yet, he finds support within a circle of evangelicals.  That’s why according to Sandi Villarreal’s article, If Our Wounds Matter, false prophets like Jerry Falwell, Jr. tweeted out, “Conservatives & Christians need to stop electing “nice guys”.  “They might make great Christian leaders but the US needs street fighters like @real Donald Trump at every level of government b/c the liberal fascists Dems are playing for keeps.” Falwell is nothing but a tool of Satan disguising himself as a Christian.  Christians follow the liberating and healing work of Jesus and not the misogynistic, homophobic, racist and amoral ways of Trump.

This country is going to pay a price for turning from God to Trump.  Stay the course Me Too Movement, for even Tamar’s assaulter eventually paid the price with his life for raping her.  God’s Justice will prevail, for He is highest judge of the land
