What’s Wrong with Lindsay Graham?
I have lost what little respect that I had for Senator Lindsay Graham. As a registered Democrat, over time I have found Republicans that I respect. Lindsay Graham was one of those Republican that I grew to respect. I believed him to be a man that had courage enough not to let Trump lead him off into an abyss.
Recently I have seen Senator Graham rest in the bosom of Trump (literally) with an unyielding desire to support Trump and his sham of a Supreme Court Justice nominee. What is it that Trump has on the Senator that has robbed him of something that Trump doesn’t have, and that’s a sense of courage and decency? I guess the bottom line is, one can’t continue to play golf with the devil and not become like the devil.
As I watched Lindsay Graham defend Brett Kavanaugh during the Thursday’s Senate Judiciary Committee hearing, I lost all respect for him. He pretended to be concerned about the danger of what succumbing to accusations would do to future nominees of any political or judicial office. If he or the Republican Judiciary Committee were so concerned, then why not call for an FBI investigation? The best approach to knocking down accusations is to have them investigated unless they already know that the accusation is credible.
When Lindsay said the inquiry into Brett Kavanaugh’s background was one of the biggest shams that he has seen since being in the Senate, he was absolutely right; however, he probably doesn’t realize the real truth behind the statement. It is nothing but a sham, when I think about how the Republicans have tried to push this nominee through by withholding information and a thorough investigation. It is a sham to watch the hypocrisy of the Republican Party that exists around this nominee.
Did the Republicans so quickly forget how they did not even give President Barack Obama’s nominee, Merrick Garland a hearing and Mitch McConnell boasted about denying President Obama’ right to sit another justice on the Supreme Court. The real sham is the hypocrisy that the likes of Mitch McConnell and Lindsay Graham displays. I find comfort in Job 27:8 “For what is the hope of the hypocrite, though he hath gained, when God taketh away his soul.”
