The Reverend Harry Matthew Seawright

 

A son, brother, uncle, and friend, Harry Matthew Seawright is a native of Washingtonian, raised and formally educated in the state of Maryland.

He is a graduate of Stillman College having earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Religion, Magna Cum Laude. His Senior thesis, “Black Liberation Theology: Past, Present, and Implications on the Future”, inspires his ministerial approach and ongoing theological research. He’s also studied at Drew University’s School of Theology.

Musician at heart and drummer since the age of two, exposed him to structural dynamics, flow, and administration of worship & liturgy. 

Rev. Bro. Matt, as he’s affectionately called, is an Ordained Itinerant Elder of the African Methodist Episcopal (AME) Church. Since answering a call to ministry, he has served as a Connectional Officer, Committee Chair, Supply Pastor, and Associate minister in the AME church. He currently serves as the Lead Pastor of Third Street Bethel AME Church, Richmond Virginia.

Mission & outreach remains a focus throughout his ministry. Engagement with the houseless population, political mobilization, and bridging of resources is driving force of his Social Action. This capacity of ministry encourages culturally responsive approaches that support and build equitable spaces for individuals and communities.

Pastor Matt is a member of The Omega Psi Phi (ΩΨΦ) Fraternity Incorporated. He has held positions of Assistant Chaplain, Keeper of Records & Seal (secretary), Reclaimation & Retention Chair, and Housing Chair of the only Omega Psi Phi Fraternity House west of Texas.

Pastor Matt believes that the alignment of one’s faith & purpose will liberate, enriched lives, advance the building of God’s kingdom, and will undoubtedly impact the overall sociocultural climate.
